Way back in Season 5 of Game of Thrones,Never Sleep Alone (1984) Littlefinger shared with Sansa Stark a cold, hard truth.
"There is no justice in the world," he told her. "Not unless we make it."
And make it she did, in the Season 7 finale.
SEE ALSO: Littlefinger's fatal flaw in 'Game of Thrones' was underestimating womenThough "The Dragon and the Wolf" brought together several sworn enemies in King's Landing, the most shocking death of the episode belonged to Littlefinger, as the remaining Stark siblings – led by Sansa – finally gave him his due.
After luring Littlefinger into the hall under false pretenses, letting him believe he'd succeeded in turning Sansa and Arya against each other, Sansa unleashes a torrent of accusations so damning, they leave Littlefinger on his knees begging for mercy.
"I loved you more than anyone," he whimpers.
Sansa's icy response? "And yet you betrayed me." You can almost hear the shrug in her voice: she is done giving one flying fuck about this asshole who's screwed her over time and time again.
Before Arya slits his throat, though, Sansa does give Littlefinger the credit he deserves for teaching her the ways of the world. "Thank you for all your many lessons, Lord Baelish," she says. "I will never forget them."
What makes this so, so delicious is that Littlefinger has turned out to be his own undoing. Because Sansa's right: She's learned a lot from this man who claimed to love her but felt no qualms about selling her off to the Boltons when he deemed it convenient.
At the start of Game of Thrones, Sansa Stark was a naive little girl with fairy tale fantasies of handsome princes and noble knights. Cersei Lannister and Petyr Baelish were instrumental in teaching her otherwise, orchestrating the events that led to her family's downfall, and using and abusing her at their pleasure.
But Sansa didn't break. She watched. She waited. She learned. She grew stronger, and gathered her resources, and remembered her worth.
And when the time was right, she used those same lessons to dole out the justice we'd been waiting for.
MVP of Game of Thrones "The Dragon and the Wolf":Sansa Stark
Best moment:When she parroted Littlefinger's lesson ("Sometimes, when I'm trying to understand a person's motives ...") right back at him to his dawning horror.
Best line:"You're still very strange and annoying." Siblings gonna sibling.
