Grande's overtaking of the former queen of Instagram may have something to do with Gomez taking a break from social media in September 2018, and not returning until January 14 this year.
"As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given," Gomez wrote on Instagram, announcing her four month social media hiatus.
