Alibaba on Uschi KarnatFriday opened its new global headquarters in Hangzhou, a combination of office and leisure facilities that total nearly 1 million square meters. The new complex nods to the e-commerce giant’s roots and demonstrates its commitment to its home city of Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, Chinese media outlets reported. It features gardens, a football field, a 400-meter running track, basketball and badminton courts, and several gyms, and is also equipped with barrier-free facilities, according to the company’s official statement on WeChat. Alibaba’s new campus in Beijing officially went into operation on the same day, with the complex providing work space for 19,000 employees. [Alibaba, in Chinese]
