An excerpt of the interview was then published by the The New York Post.
But Elton John's publicist, Fran Curtis, strongly denied the report. "Deny. Will NOT be performing," he told Mashable via e-mail.
The Postlater reported the denial.
Elton John was an outspoken Trump critic during the presidential campaign. The pop superstar even blasted Trump for using his songs ("Rocket Man" and "Tiny Dancer" above all) as a campaign trail soundtrack.
“I don’t really want my music to be involved in anything to do with an American election campaign," he told The Guardianin February.
"I’m British. I’ve met Donald Trump, he was very nice to me, it’s nothing personal, his political views are his own, mine are very different, I’m not a Republican in a million years. Why not ask Ted fucking Nugent? Or one of those fucking country stars? They’ll do it for you.” (He put political disagreements aside during a controversial performance at conservative firebrand Rush Limbaugh's 2011 nuptials.)
In October he told Micthat the possibility that Trump could win the election made him "fear for the world".
