Their color choice dates back to the suffragettes of the early 1900s, who were known for wearing white while campaigning to bring voting rights to women. The outfits may indeed be a statement and nod to equality for women, but they were also a noticeable way to call out Trump's treatment of women right in front of him, as House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and others teased out leading up to the speech.

The women in white didn't stay quiet either. Many booed and gave Trump the thumbs down as he talked, while Pelosi herself simply shook her head in disdain.
