Fortnite is a wildly popular game right now. So popular,Philippines in fact, that it's marked its place as the most successful free-to-play console game of all time, according to SuperData.
Fortnite, specifically its Battle Royalespin-off mode, has been blowing up since its release last year in both players and monthly revenue. The game is completely free to download and play, but has optional purchases for things like character skins, emotes, and other cosmetic items. Apparently people are dishing out a whole lot of money for these things every month on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

The game's mobile release in March helped with that, and Fortnitetook the No. 1 spot for revenue on iOS.
Part of that success comes from the newfound popularity of the battle royale genre that Fortnitetapped into. The game has surpassed the previous biggest thing in battle royale, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, in both active players and popularity on streaming platforms like Twitch.
Fortnite Battle Royaleis seen as a bit more accessible than PUBGgiven its more cartoonish art style, its fun skins, and its shorter gametime (about 15 minutes per session rather than PUBG's penchant for 30-minutes matches).
Right now it doesn't look like the Fortnitetrain is slowing down, but then again, you could've said the same thing about PUBG.
