Plus-size advertising seems to be The Liar (2014)all the rage as of late, with inclusivity now on the social conscience of well, everyone.
Now national retailer JCPenney has a new video featuring body-positive women on behalf of the brand's plus-size line, Here I Am.
Featured in the ad are several influencers: singer Mary Lambert, Project Runway winner (and JCPenney designer) Ashley Nell Tipton, Instagram star Valerie Sagun, blogger and designer Gabi Fresh, and author Jes Baker.
The ad starts out with each woman speaking candidly about her history with body image.
"I remember when I was 10, I wanted to be a singer, and... a family member said 'Sorry kid, it's not going to happen for you,'" Lambert says.
"As the fifth-grader called hippo... I was spending my entire life trying to change," Baker says.
"In high school I was one of those girls who was like, I would be so much prettier if I were thin," Fresh says.
Then the ad shifts into a celebration of self-esteem, happiness, and a changing tide.
"Fat girls can do whatever they want... Fat girls can run, fat girls can dance, fat girls can have amazing jobs," the women say. "We can walk runways. We can be on the covers of magazines. Wear stripes. Bright colors. I am beautiful; I am sexy. There's no ignoring this when it walks in the door. My size isn't an indicator of my worth."
Here's to more uplifting advertorials that continue pushing the boundaries of what's considered beautiful.
