With fans and Watch Private Obsession (1995) full moviecritics flooding out of the first screenings of Frozen 2, their initial takes on the highly anticipated Disney sequel suggest a slightly grittier story that delves into Elsa's past but doesn't quite outshine its older sister.
First, the bad: Expecting a sequel to live up to the original is a fool's game, and few people in the know suggest you do so. A couple of people suggest there's a little too much focus on Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf and not enough on the central sisters Elsa and Anna.
The YMMV: Word is it's a little darker than the original, and there's some solid weepy energy too. Movie criers and big sisters be warned. Also, Weezer, apparently?
The good: There's "plenty to love," as Mashable's Angie Han notes. There's gorgeous and fantastical animation, earworms galore in a soundtrack that might actually top the original, a big 90s cover for Kristoff, and this tiny, precious fella:
