We're just getting past the buggy roll-out of iOS 13 but,Watch Brooklyn Nine based on leaked images, it looks like iOS 14 is going to shake things up.
A report from 91mobiles shows what it claims to be a video of iOS 14's new multitasking feature in action.
Instead of the one-app-at-a-time slideshow on iOS 13, the feature tiles your open apps, displaying four at a time on your screen. (The phone in the above video is an iPhone 11 Pro Max.)

If this looks familiar, it's because it's really similar to the multitasking option in iPadOS. According to tech reporter Ben Geskin, this new view will be an option under the App Switch setting in iOS 14.

It's still way too early to know whether or not this feature will make it to the finished product, given that the iOS 14 release is probably still seven months away.

And maybe we'll get a bit more information about reports that users will also finally be able to set third-party apps (like Gmail and Chrome) as default options on the iPhone.
Until, take it with a grain of salt and accept that, no, you can't get this feature on the iPhone right now.
